Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church – February 14, 2019

Happy Valentine’s Day!

One eye on the weather, one eye on all the other things that need to be done each day, rescheduling when necessary – that seems to be the pattern this winter. Checking on road conditions, projected snow/ice amounts, school closures, mass transit schedules give me a pretty good indication of what is going on for the people with whom I share this part of the planet.

We are all connected. The connection can be tenuous or intimate, life-giving or sometimes challenging. Through it all is the reminder of God’s connection with us, and our connection withGod.

One of the ways that St Thomas shares this connection is through the annual food pantry shopping trip on Presidents’ Day. We will meet at the customer service counter of the Flemington Shoprite on Monday, February 18 at 10:00 am. The children will receive a list and a budget and will, with help and guidance from adults as needed, fill their cart. After checkout, we will deliver the food to the Flemington Food Pantry. Of special concern this year: a flood at Open Cupboard Food Pantry in Clinton has meant a loss of much of their inventory, and left them unable to serve their clients.

These clients are now being helped by the Flemington Food Pantry, so there is even more need for our donations there than usual. Once Open Cupboard has a startup date and is ready to restock their shelves, we will let you know, and hope you will be willing to help.

How can you help?

Make a donation. Last year we raised over $1,000.00 for this trip. Can we meet or exceed that amount this year?
Show up on Monday – join in the fun, and watch or help our children as they make this important connection.

As winter continues to be a challenge, may we all be safe, and may we find ways that we canconnect with others and share God’s love in ways that bring life and joy.

Let us pray:

O Lord, you have taught us that without love whatever we
do is worth nothing; Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts your greatest gift, which is love, the true bond of peace and of all virtue, without which whoever lives is accounted dead before you. Grant this for the sake of your only Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Peace and blessing,
