Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church - August 8, 2019

From the Gospel for this Sunday we hear these words:

“Jesus said to his disciples, "Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's goodpleasure to give you the kingdom... Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For whereyour treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:32-40

What is it that you treasure most? Where is our treasure? Surely, in those we love, and the joyswe see in this world. But this kingdom, this treasure, promised to Jesus’ disciples, and to us, isbeyond anything that we know now.

The passage that we have from the Letter to the Hebrews for this week begins with these words:“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews11:1). It is in our faith in Jesus’ promise that we not only trust in this coming Kingdom, butcommit ourselves to work toward that Kingdom in our living in this world. Every act of kindness or generosity, every good deed to any living creature, including stewardship of our planet Earth, contributes to the coming of that Kingdom.

Let us pray:

Grant to us, Lord, we pray, the spirit to think and do always those things that are right, that we, who cannot exist without you, may by you be enabled to live according to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Peace and blessing,
