Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church—February 20, 2014
Freezing rain this morning, then thunder, and now brilliant sunshine and temps in the 40's. Welcome to February, 2014 in New Jersey. Outside my office window the birds are feasting on the seed I have been putting out on top of the snowbank: bluejays, mourning doves, several pairs of cardinals, starlings, juncos, titmice, sparrows, chickadees, and one redbellied woodpecker at last glance. I am glad to be able to help them get through this challenging time of year.
And I am still basking in the memory of the church school shopping trip on Monday morning, where several children and adults filled shopping carts full of food, laundry detergent, toilet paper and other items for the food pantry – over $1300.00 worth, thanks to the generosity of St Thomas parishioners, and the smart-shopping of our children and adults. I am basking in the memory of the trip to the food pantry, where these same children and adults helped to stock the shelves, bins and refrigerators with items that will help to feed the two hundred families that rely on the Open Cupboard each month for their basic needs. We can all be glad that we are able to help. Thank you, one and all!
Peace and blessing,
A Seekers Class will start on Sunday, March 2, at 11:40. This is for folks who are new to the Episcopal Church, or who would like a refresher course on what it is to be an Episcopalian. All are welcome. Check the attached newsletter for more information about this class and other opportunities during Lent.
