Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church—July 16, 2015
“At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home...” - Pluto When I did a Google search for “Pluto” earlier in the week the first dozens of sites on the list were for the Disney character. Way down near the bottom of the screen there was something about a small planet at the outer reaches of the solar system, and about a mission to send a spacecraft to see what was there.
Not any more. I have watched and waited along with millions of others for news, photos, bits of information from a project decades in the making. The fulfillment of dreams that are represented in what was, technically, a “fly-by” is enormous. I wept as I watched the video of the ground crew as they received the first word that the spacecraft was, indeed, working and sending back data.
This is but a taste of the vastness of God in creation. This same God who is as close as our hands and feet, as close as our breath.
Let us pray for those who dream dreams and those who help to see them through, for those who see visions and share them, and for those who are led to discoveries and experiences beyond their wildest imagination.
Thanks be to God for all that has been, for all that is, and for all that will be.
Peace and blessing,
