Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church—July 21, 2016

Screen Shot 2014-01-21 at 2.51.46 PM“Ask and it will be given you; search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.” The gospel for this coming Sunday opens with a request from one of Jesus’ disciples, “Lord, teach us to pray.” Jesus then gives them words that we recognize as the beginning of The Lord’s Prayer.

He then goes on to explain, saying, “Seek first the Kingdom of God, and it’s righteousness...” followed closely by the words above.

So, what are we to ask for? A lottery win? A new job? A return to health for ourselves or a loved one? Peace in our families, communities and our world? Perhaps – and more: Pray for the grace to recognize God’s abundance in our daily life and the lives of others. Be thankful for it. Pass on the good news of blessings to others, and pray for God’s mercy, forgiveness and love in all aspects of life on this earth.

Let us pray:

O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Peace and blessing, Carol+
