Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church—June 2, 2016
“O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by your merciful guiding may do them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.”
Collect for June 5, 2016 I often find myself having a pretty good idea what the “right” thing to do would be, whether it be saying the kind word, supporting a just cause, or completing some act of service. These are good thoughts, and make me feel good. But unless I actually take the next step and do something about them, they remain only that: good thoughts. When I see them come to life through action, I am part of changing the lives of others and making a difference in the world. You may see many people wearing orange today. This is not an early call to Halloween – it is a witness that the wearers stand in solidarity for an end to gun violence in our society. This does not mean the wearers advocate an end to the second amendment or the right to bear arms. It does mean that we need to find a way for our children, our men and women to be able to live lives free of the fear of being shot, on purpose or by accident. Safe in our homes, safe on our streets and in our communities, safe in our country. Safe, and free to do the good things that God would have all of us do in our world.
Peace and blessing,
