#405, Hymnal 1982
Clergy from the Watchung Convocation gathered here yesterday for a lunch meeting with Bishop Stokes. Despite the huge thunderstorm and pouring rain, all enjoyed being in the beautiful place, and commented on how blessed we are to have it for our worship and enjoyment. Don’t I know it!!! As I look out on the garden at St Thomas Church, I see all kinds of creatures: birds of all sizes and colors, squirrels, chipmunks, even an occasional fox, and the neighbor’s cat. Bright and beautiful. All creatures, great and small. God’s hospitality to us, and the hospitality we can offer to our community and all who pass by. We then carry this hospitality out into our lives, our household, places of work and education, our communities and our world. The collect for this Sunday asks for grace that we may proclaim God’s truth with boldness, and minister God’s justice with compassion. We can do this best if we, ourselves, are nurtured, supported and fed through regular prayer and attendance at worship in our community of faith.

The words of the fourth verse of the above hymn are these: “He gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell how great is God Almighty who hath made all things well.”

Let us pray: Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

This weekend we will celebrate with an outdoor service and picnic, beginning at 10:00. If it does happen to rain, we will move the celebration indoors. See below for more information. The following Sunday, June 19, we will go on our summer worship schedule: one service at 9:00 am, with hymns. All are always welcome!

Peace and blessing, Carol+
