GOOD NEWS: A Weekly Update from St. Thomas Church – November 13, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-01-21 at 2.51.46 PMAs I drove to church this morning I saw the road crew putting up snow fence along the road in front of Sky Manor Airport. Good news? Well, maybe not totally – but it is November, after all, and almost Thanksgiving. Sunday’s Gospel passage from Matthew is about using talents wisely. (Read it here: Matthew 25:14-30).

Matthew’s story of the parable of the talents may seem harsh in terms of the master’s treatment of the distrustful slave. But we need to remember that God will provide for all our genuine needs. How many of us live in a mentality of scarcity like the timid servant, rather than rejoicing and using our own talents (money and otherwise) to show appreciation for our great abundance, and in thanksgiving for God’s eternal beneficence? While the reference in the gospel is about money, it can easily apply to all the other talents we have been given. So: how are you using your talents?

It’s not too late to make a pledge to St Thomas Church for 2015. Both financial and time/talent pledge forms are in the gallery.

Peace and blessing,
