Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church—November 21, 2013

"We plow the fields, and scatter the good seed on the land; but it is fed and watered by God's almighty hand..." #291, Hymnal 1982

One week until Thanksgiving day. The local supermarket was full yesterday with produce, products and shoppers. Carts were overflowing, and some shoppers, unused to shopping, were wandering around the store, glassy eyed, trying to find one item or another. The clerks and other personnel were helpful, and it was a rather festive experience all the way around: appropriate in the midst of such abundance.

In the midst of such abundance we are reminded of those who have little or nothing as a result of  typhoon or tornadoes or war or other disasters. We help them as we are able, through our  donations of food or cash. And we give thanks to God, not only for our abundance, but also that  we have the ability to share with those in need.

As we gather at our Thanksgiving tables, whether our feast be large or small, my this be a time of true thanksgiving for what we have received, for the people who bless our lives, and for the ways in which God has fed and watered the seeds sown in us for compassion, love and joy.

Peace and blessing, thanks and love Carol+
