Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas—January 5, 2017
Happy New Year! Happy 12th Day of Christmas! As I write, it is the 5th Day of January, and the 12th day of Christmas. (For those who remember the song, it is Twelve Drummers Drumming.) Tomorrow is the Feast of the Epiphany, when the Church marks the arrival of the three kings to worship Jesus. These foreigners travelled far distances and took great risks to come and worship this child – a reminder that even from his birth, the message of Jesus was – and is – for all people. The kings at St Thomas have been wending their way through the parish hall and gallery these past few weeks, and will make their appearance at the creche right on time.
St Thomas will mark their arrival on Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm with the annual Epiphany pageant. Children and adults will tell and act out the story; we will sing carols and share the joy of the coming of Jesus into this world. Following the pageant we will share pizza in the parish hall – All are welcome! Following the festivities, we will “un-green” the church, removing both the greens and poinsettias.
Let us pray: O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
