Good News From St Thomas Church – January 8, 2015
The first reading for this coming Sunday brings us these words:
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Genesis 1:1-5 Darkness and light, along with cold and warmth, are much in our minds these days in many ways. Birds flock to the bird feeders, trying to store enough energy to make it through another cold night. I think about people who flock to food pantries and shelters these days for the same purpose, and children not so far away from where I sit who wake up hungry and cold. A reminder to me that when I get birdseed this afternoon, I also need to get some items for the food pantry basket.
Let us pray:
Gracious and loving God: be with those who are hungry or cold or afraid or alone this day; wrap them in your loving arms and fill them with your light. Be with those who help in any way: fill our hearts and minds with your love and your light, and open our hands to do your will, this and every day, in the name of Jesus Christ, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen
Peace and blessing,
