Good News: A Weekly Update from St Thomas Church - May 16, 2019

“Love one another, as I have loved you...”

The gospel this coming Sunday gives us a flashback to the Last Supper – the last meal that Jesus would eat with his disciples before his arrest, trial and crucifixion. It is at this meal that he says to them:”I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

What he tells them to do is not just for them, but for everyone they would meet, everyone they would teach, everyone whose lives they would touch. Over two thousand years later, it is for us to be the disciples in our own generation. Sometimes easier said than done, but always worth the effort. Our love does indeed change the world, bit by bit.

The whole passage from this gospel, along with the other readings and the Psalm for this Sunday may be found here:

Let us pray:

Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Peace and Blessing,
